SAVANNAH – John Ernest Parker, age 84, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Candler Hospital. The native and lifelong resident of Savannah was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II.
He retired from WTOC Television Station in 1985 after many years of service in the advertising department.
He was a member of St. Andrews Reformed Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry. Mr. Parker was a member of Ancient Landmark Lodge, F&AM, the Scottish Rite Consistory and the Greeters Unit of Alee Temple of the Shrine. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Post 184, and was past president of the Southside Optimist Club.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert G. and Ethel Kearney Parker and three brothers, Gilbert Gold Parker, Earl Raymond Parker and William Ralph Parker.
Surviving are his wife, Eva Lee "Evie" Parker of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest L. and Sharon Parker of Pembroke and Brian K. and Chris Parker of Savannah; four grandchildren, Caleb Anthony Parker of Washington, DC, Amanda Jimmy Weston of Savannah, Hillary Kevin Collins of Pembroke, and Jessica Lyn Parker of Rincon; two great-grandchildren, Crispin Alexander Voinescu and Brayden Leo Collins; a brother, Anthony Carl Parker of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with The Rev. Skip Burzumato officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances be made to St. Andrews Reformed Episcopal Church, 608 Hampton St., Savannah, GA 31406.
